"A skilled warrior and heroic protector of the Barbarian people, Sigurd lives for the thrill of battle. Whenever a new evil arises to threaten the land, Sigurd is the first to raise his sword against it."

'Sigurd' the Barbarian was one of the two main characters for my final 3D project in school. Ever since I graduated from St.Clair College Sigurd has been the poster boy for the Tradigital Animation program.

The photo on the left is my Character on almost a full page spread in the Windsor Star Newspaper recently, and on the right is a booth with a poster advertising for the Tradigital Animation program.

He was inspired by the Diablo 2 version of the Barbarian. He was the first realistic character model I had ever done in Maya. Initially he was modelled, rigged and animated entirely with Maya and all of the maps were done in Photoshop.

I thought it would be a good idea to revive this old model and try and give him some new life. The old bump maps and textures were really low detail so I took him into ZBrush to test my improved ability to sculpt hi-poly meshes. Below is an updated model of the Barbarian.

Below I've also added some more screenshots of the Barbarian after updated texture maps and normal maps were applied. Keep in mind that I haven't touched the old base mesh or rig as you can notice some funky stuff with the hands. When I get some spare time I plan on fixing up the rig and maybe animating this guy again.
